The True Enlightenment | 1 Corinthians 2 & 3 | Andrew Fulton
Picture a wedding where the groom never once looks at his bride. That is the church at Corinth ā and, if we're honest, often us. In 1 Corinthians 2 and 3, Paul walks the church back through its own history so that we never take our eyes off the main event: Jesus Christ. In this message, Pastor Andrew Fulton traces that history in four movements. We underrated God: the rulers of this age met the Lord of glory and crucified him, treating the greatest treasure as a threat ā like kids playing sandlot ball with a Babe Ruth autograph. God recalibrated our minds: by his own Spirit he lets us see what he has freely given us, the way Ron Weasley finally sees Hermione at the Yule Ball and John Wesley felt his heart "strangely warmed." The gospel is the judge, not the judged: with the mind of Christ we take every thought captive and, as C.S. Lewis put it, see everything else by it. And so, don't forget: Christians can be surrounded by Jesus' word, Jesus' people and Jesus' books and still miss Jesus. It is possible to be enlightened and still look away. This sermon is a plea to keep your eyes on the Bridegroom. š Scripture: 1 Corinthians 2:6ā3:4 š Speaker: Andrew Fulton š October 4, 2026 āŖ Oneida Gospel Church āāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāā CHAPTERS 0:00 Welcome & Prayer 2:19 The Distracted Groom 3:35 Missing Our Own Wedding 4:22 1. The Fear That Casts Out Fear | Psalm 46 | Be Still and Know
What do you do when the earth gives way? Psalm 46 never tells you your fears are silly. It goes straight at the worst case scenario ā mountains falling into the sea, nations raging, kingdoms tottering ā and answers it with a God big enough to make every smaller fear let go. In this message, Pastor Andrew Fulton works through the psalm's promise that God is "a very present help in trouble." The Hebrew behind "present" carries the sense of being found: God has not hidden his help, he has made it easy to find. From there the psalm gives two pictures of that help ā a refuge when oceans rage, a river city when nations rage ā before turning to a single command. "Be still and know that I am God" is not an invitation to relax. Set against those raging nations, it reads more like a cease and desist order: lay down your weapons, stop pretending to be God. From Martin Luther's "A Mighty Fortress" to a fireman who answered every question with "worst case scenario," from the rearview mirror in Jurassic Park to Christopher Nolan's 70mm IMAX, this message asks a pointed question ā is God featured in your life, or just glanced at over your shoulder? š Scripture: Psalm 46 š Speaker: Andrew Fulton š August 9, 2026 āŖ Oneida Gospel Church āāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāā CHAPTERS 0:00 Opening Prayer 1:26 Got Troubles? 3:09 "A Very Findable Help" 3:58 A Refuge When Oceans Rage 6:09 Worst Case Scenario 11:49 A River City When Nations Rage 15:06 The River Within You 16:41 Liquid Modernity 18:45 Come, Behold, Be Still, Know 22:34 Lay Down Your Weapons 25:01 God in the Rearview Mirror 29:06 Exalting God on the IMAX 36:12 Studying the Word for Yourself 37:56 Peace, Be Still 40:20 Closing Prayer āāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāā CONNECT WITH ONEIDA GOSPEL CHURCH š Join us in person ā Sundays at 10:30 a.m. EST š 3048 E.
